Today I thought I’d discuss a shoe I’ve personally had my eye on for a while. The Loake Epsom from Loake’s Shoemakers Collection. This is a classic great looking shoe that Loake has been producing for the last 30 years and still hasn’t gone out of fashion. Now with winter upon us it’s time for a shoe that offers good grip but maintains your bespoke look.
Construction
The Epsom itself is a sturdy plain derby made on the 024 last. This last offers a true to size F fitting and has a no nonsense traditional rounded toe design. The upper is a gorgeous brown waxy leather and fully leather lined with leather insoles. Goodyear welted commando rubber soles and heel for that fantastic grip one needs in this weather to come.
Cons?
The only disadvantage these shoes have to offer is they may track stones and dirt into your house after a country walk. But this can be fixed by a brisk brush down before you enter your abode. These shoes are made to be used and abused outdoors, nonetheless would look great with jeans or chinos. And of course look sublime with tweed or corduroys.
