You can of course return Sanders, Trickers and Loake shoes to the relevant factory in Northamptonshire and they will replace the entire long sole on the last on which the shoe or boot was originally made. We would certainly recommend returning the shoes to the factory if your preference is for a long sole. With a long sole repair, in which the entire bottom of the shoe is replaced, there is a possibility that the shoe can lose shape and this can only be avoided for certain by re-making the shoe on its original last.
At Bradshaw and Lloyd we would repair your shoes, whether leather or rubber soled, with what is known as a half sole. This only replaces the sole which hits the ground and therefore wears. Consequently the shoe is able to maintain its shape and it doesn’t matter that we aren’t repairing the sole on the original last on which it was made. There are literally hundreds of last shapes used to make shoes. The great advantage of a half sole is that it is vastly cheaper to do in terms of materials and labour costs. Also we are able to turn around shoe repairs within a week whereas if you do return them to the factory you will be without them for some weeks.
